Fall Saturday, October 5, 2013, 7:30 am – 11:30 am
Take a closer listen at how birds make sounds, what their sounds mean, and which birds you can hear in your yard and at the PWLC. Indoor instruction and outdoor adventure included. Mnemonic devices, technological tools, taxidermy specimens, and other tips will be shared. Dress for the weather and be prepared for a long walk on-trail. Binoculars, and field guides are available, or bring your own. All abilities welcome. Come back each season to learn new bird calls and songs in the migrating and nesting seasons -- April 27, July 20, and October 5.
Schedule and content
July 20: we'll focus on nesting birds and their young along with other summer residents. Unfortunately, mist-netting will not be available on this date. We'll start outside and end indoors.
October 5: we'll focus on fall waterfowl, just in time for migration and for those who hunt for ducks and geese. Most folks think all ducks say "quack," when actually waterfowl create a variety of surprising sounds. This workshop will include mist-netting, banding, and releasing songbirds as well (weather/conditions permitting).
Free! Please bring your own field notebook or voice recording device. All educators who participate receive a certificate documenting continuing education/clock hours. Register by calling 218-998-4481 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org .
