Balcones Songbird Festival 2016

April 22 - 25, 2016SongbirdFest_150x105

Guided bird walks to identify the many species of birds in this region, including the golden-cheeked warbler and black-capped vireo.   From the 2015 Songbird Festival's Friends of Balcones member, Kelly Smith: "I have looked over the bird list and I counted 161 species total, 145 of which were seen at the refuge (16 were only seen offsite).  However, of those 16 seen only offsite, all but 5 are on the checklist issued by USFWS with the Black-capped Vireo on it.  Those five are Yellow-crowned Night Heron, Egyptian Goose, Common Loon, Worm-eating Warbler, and Willet.  A Worm-eating Warbler was seen at Doeskin by our family tour (congrats to Bryce and Rob) so I believe only four species reported during thefestival are never seen on the refuge.  A Backpoll Warbler was reported on ebird during the festival, but I did not count it."

This event is hosted with the Friends of Balcones Canyonlands Refuge.  To register, visit www.friendsofbalcones.org.
