Friends of the Upper Mississippi River Refuges Choose Winners of Photo Contest

WINONA, Minn. – The Best of Show winner from the 14th annual Friends of the Upper Mississippi River Refuges photo contest has been chosen. Best of Show is determined by public voting at events across the region throughout the year. Over 2,200 votes were cast during this years competition. The Best of Show winner is Alan Stankevitz, of La Crescent, MN for his photo of a Bald Eagle sitting on a piece of ice floating in the Mississippi River titled “Hitchin’ a Ride.” 

Runners up from the public voting are Madison Berg for “Camouflage” and Taylor Spaag for “Solitude” both are students at the Riverway Learning Community School, Minnesota City, MN; Alan Stankevitz, LaCrescent, MN for “Mother to Be;” Deedee Nadeau, Winona, MN for “A Kayaker’s Paradise;” and Manley Dahler, Winona, MN for “Egret Reflection.”

The photos will be on display through December 2012 at the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge located on the second floor of the Exchange Building, 51 East 4th Street, Winona, MN.
