Atlantic Loggerhead Turtle Recovery Team Stakeholder Meeting

April 8-9, 2003

Silver Spring, Maryland (NOAA Headquarters - Science Center)

DRY TORTUGAS RECOVERY UNIT - NESTING FEMALE ABUNDANCE AND POPULATION TRENDS

Presented by Blair Witherington

The trend data for the Dry Tortugas Recovery Unit are from beaches that are not part of the Index Nesting Beach Survey program but have moderately good monitoring consistency.

There are 7 years of data for this recovery unit, but the time series is too short to detect a trend.

A near census of the Dry Tortugas Recovery Unit undertaken from 1997-2001 reveals a mean of 206 nests per year, which equates to about 50 females nesting per year.
