2011 Career Discovery Internship ProgramShakera GrantMy name is Shakera Grant. I've lived in six different states and countries, but all of those times I have lived in a city environment. I have always been curious about nature, but never really had the courage to go outside and explore. I am a transitioning sophomore at Pace University majoring in Psychology, but I will be transferring to a different college in the Fall of 2011 and will major in Human Services. As a freshman I was involved in my university's psychology club. I was also involved on the "green floor", which was the name of the floor I lived on in the dorm. The "green floor" held events that focused on conservation, wildlife, and nature. I was also involved in OUTHOUSE which was a group that catered to students that were into technology, so we often went to the movies, discussed technological advances and went to see Broadway shows. In my free time I like to sleep, take photos, watch movies, hang out with friends, travel, blog, read, and write. I was interested in this CDIP position because I've always wanted to immerse myself in nature. I saw this as a great opportunity to do so. I hope to have a better appreciation for nature and wildlife, and just over all have fun while I am doing the internship. After I receive my Bachelor's degree, I would like to pursue a Master's Degree in Social Work. My main career goal is to become a social worker in the government and help veterans and active military personnel. Back to the 2011 CDIP Crew |
