2011 Career Discovery Internship Program

Katie Serock

My name is Katie Serock. I grew up in Newtown, CT in a house with a large backyard and woods to explore. I always had access to wildlife just outside my door, which made me gain a sense of wonder that I have continued to study. I attend Hobart and William Smith Colleges and I am majoring in Environmental Studies with a double minor in Geoscience and Latin American Studies. I play Division III tennis for the William Smith Herons as well as a variety of intramural sports.  I love to snowboard, hike, run, basically anything outdoor activity.

I thought that applying for the CDIP internship outside of my hometown would allow me the opportunity to explore new environments and communicate with people who have the same passionate for wildlife as I do. After interning at the Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge, I want to continue down the environmentally based career path and perhaps find a career in the Fish and Wildlife services. My career goal is to either work in an area involving botany or wildlife protection, but before that I would like to join the Peace Corps or AmeriCorps.
