2011 Career Discovery Internship Program
I am an upcoming junior at Stephen F. Austin State University, majoring in Forest Wildlife Management. I moved around a lot growing up, but mainly lived in Tennessee. When we were in TN, our land backed up to a Wildlife Management Area, which allowed me to hike around quite a bit and see a lot of wildlife. Living so many places has allowed me to compare various habitats and appreciate the various ecosystems that America has to offer its wildlife. I enjoy participating in the forestry and wildlife clubs offered by my college in my spare time, because it gives me the opportunity to meet and interact with people in my field of study and gain more experience. I love what I do! I am currently active in Society of American Foresters (secretary), The Wildlife Society (vice-president), Sylvans (works project leader), National Wild Turkey Federation Committee Member, Urban Outreach and Education Programs, and am a volunteer for the Texas Forestry Museum, among other places. I've always wanted to work for USFWS and saw the CDIP Program as an opportunity to get my foot in the door with them, meet new people, and gain as much experience as I possibly can before I graduate college. I hope to learn a lot about how USFWS operates and see what it's like to work for them. I also want to meet a variety of people that can give me different perspectives on natural resource management and help me gain more experience in the field that will hopefully make me more marketable when I begin looking for a job. My main career goal is to get a job with USFWS when I graduate. I am primarily interested with waterfowl, so working in a Wetland Protection Area with USFWS would be my ideal job!
