Gillian BallHi! My name is Gillian Ball and I am a senior at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, majoring in Journalism with a concentration in Spanish. Currently, I am a working as a STEP intern for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, an agency I previously knew very little about. However, through my position as an outreach assistant in External Affairs at the Regional Office, I have been exposed to a number of new things—not only the “fish and wildlife,” but the efforts taken to preserve and restore them, as well as the wonderful people who do so. Through this internship I have traveled, written stories, produced videos, blogged, researched different species and even held my first sea lamprey. And although I have been interning since May, the new experiences have only just begun. I will fortunately be continuing as an SCA intern throughout my senior year and I am excited to see what is yet to come and what I have yet to learn. When not in class or working, I enjoy getting outside, reading murder mysteries, stand-up comedy and marathons of Law & Order SVU. |
