Bat Night - Saturday, September 13
8:00 to 9:30 p.m., Free, donations appreciated.

Jackie Kashmer, Director of Bat World of New Jersey, will bring one of her live bats for her talk "Co-existing with Bats, Our Nocturnal Allies" at the Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters, 1547 County Route 565 in Vernon at 8 PM.

Ms. Kashmer is a licensed wildlife rehabilitator who specializes in caring for bats. Her talk will reveal her work with these flying mammals, identify the species in our area including the endangered Indiana Bat (a species recently confirmed to inhabit the refuge), and include how people benefit from bats and can avoid problems with them.

Refuge Day, Saturday, Oct. 4

Location:  Refuge Headquarters 1547 County Route 565 in Vernon
Come join the staff and friends of the Wallkill River NWR as we celebrate National Wildlife Refuge Week.  Guided hikes, kayak trips, exhibitors, kids activities and games.  Explore the entire Wallkill River in our new giant river maze.  No reservations needed.  Light refreshments available.  Event to be held, rain or shine.

Nocturnal Creature Night - October 25th 5:30 - 8:30 (Rain Date Nov. 1)
Reservations Required
Tours go out on the half hour, in groups. Guided tours start at 5:30 lasting about 1- 1/2 hours. Our guide leads you through the woods as our volunteers in native nocturnal creature costumes come out to teach all about the "night life" of our refuge. This is a family oriented educational alternative to Halloween, treats included. Enjoy our campfire, marshmallow roasting and refreshments. All ages welcome.
This is a great program for scout troops.
$5.00 per person, group discounts available.
