Mission
The Appalachian Partnership Coordination Office is responsible for working with partners that represent federal, state, non governmental organizations (NGO’s) and private citizens in the Appalachian region for the conservation, restoration, and enhancement of habitats and species, both aquatic and terrestrial, for the continuing benefit of the American people.

Priorities
The priorities of the Appalachian Partnership Coordination Office are:

  • To protect and enhance game and non game fish species.
  • Stream and riparian habitat restoration
  • Native mussel recovery and restoration

Management Activities

  • Collaborate with others to build and implement partnerships under the National Fish Habitat Action Plan (NFHAP), including the Eastern Brook Trout Joint Venture (EBTJV), and the Ohio River Basin Fish Habitat Partnership (ORBFHP)
  • Develop and implement on the ground projects with the Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program, the National Fish Habitat Action Plan, and the National Fish Passage Program.
  • Provide technical assistance to private landowners to restore and enhance fish and wildlife habitat on their property.
  • Develop strategic plans for aquatic habitat and species restoration within the Appalachian mountain range by working with partners such as the Nature Conservancy and Trout Unlimited.
  • Cooperate with the U.S. Department of Agriculture on programs associated with the Farm Bill, Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program, Environmental Quality Incentive Program, Wetlands Reserve Program and the Conservation Reserve Program.
  • Conduct education and public awareness efforts regarding the unique resources of the central Appalachians and associated aquatic resources such as the native brook trout and the various threatened and endangered aquatic species.
