Patuxent Research RefugeComprehensive Conservation PlanningThe Patuxent Research Refuge has developed draft alternatives. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service received public input on issues that we should consider whaen developing our Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP) for the Patuxent Research Refuge. The CCP is required of all National Wildlife Refuges by the National Wildlife Refuge System Improvement Act of 1997 (PL 105-57). The CCP is a 15-year plan designed to provide strategic management direction that best achieves the Refuge’s purposes; attains the vision and goals developed for the Refuge; contributes to the National Wildlife Refuge System mission; addresses key challenges, issues and relevant mandates; and, is consistent with sound principles of fish and wildlife management. A synopsis of the draft alternatives is available in our latest newsletter. We hope to develop and distribute the draft plan for public review and comment in the spring of 2012. For more detailed information about the alternatives, we have developed a matrix that compares the alternatives across major topics. Click here to download it. Past newsletters can be viewed here.
