James River National Wildlife Refuge Comprehensive Conservation Plan

Planning for the Future

We, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service), are pleased to announce that we have just begun the development of a comprehensive conservation plan (CCP) and environmental assessment (EA) for James River National Wildlife Refuge. We have prepared a Notice of Intent (NOI) to advise other Federal and State agencies, Tribes, and the public of our intentions, and to obtain suggestions and information on the scope of issues to consider in the planning process.

CCPs are 15-year plans designed to provide strategic management direction that best achieves the Refuge's purposes; attains the vision and goals developed for the Refuge; contributes to the National Wildlife Refuge System mission; addresses key challenges, issues and relevant mandates; and, is consistent with sound principles of fish and wildlife management. Latest CCP News

We initiated the planning process by hosting two public scoping meetings on Wednesday, September 12th. The meetings provided an opportunity for the public to speak directly with refuge staff and comment on what they see as the issues, concerns, and challenges for the refuge over the next 15 years. We asked that comments be submitted by October 15, 2012.
