Elizabeth Hartwell Mason Neck (Mason Neck) and Featherstone are two of the three refuges comprising the Potomac River National Wildlife Refuge. The other refuge is Occoquan Bay. A comprehensive conservation plan (CCP) was already completed for Occoquan Bay in 1997. We are going to develop a combined CCP for Elizabeth Hartwell Mason Neck and Featherstone refuges.

Latest News in Developing CCP

Elizabeth Hartwell Mason Neck and Featherstone have offically started their Comprehensive Conservation Plan!!

If you would like to learn more about our planning effort please read our planning newsletters for Mason Neck and Featherstone.

We held two public meetings ( March 27 & 28, 2007) where participants had the opportunity to learn about existing refuge programs, help the planning team identify key issues, share ideas and conerns, and make recommendations on how the refuge should be managed in the future.

A Federal Register Notice of Intent (NOI) to formally initiate the planning process was published on May 18, 2007.

Thanks to those who sent in comments during the scoping phase! We are now moving on to developing management alternatives, goals and objectives.
