2014 Spring Wild Turkey Hunt

The Patuxent Research Refuge is hosting a spring wild turkey hunting season in April and May of 2014.
The refuge is partnering with the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) and Meade Natural Heritage Association (MNHA) to offer this hunting season to youth, disabled, and general public hunters. Hunters will be selected by lottery. Lottery application forms are available at the Refuge North Tract Hunting Control Station (Mon. – Sat. through Jan. 31, 2014). Deer/Turkey Lottery Application is here. Please contact MNHA for information on a hunting permit at www.mnha.net or by calling 301-317-3819.

“In 2013, we had several successful hunts. We look forward to 2014 being another good season,” says Refuge Manager Brad Knudsen about the improved hunting opportunities.

Dates for Spring 2014 wild turkey hunts (subject to change):
      Youth Hunt – April 12, 19, 26, and May 3, 10, and 17, 2014
      All other hunts – April 21, 28, and May 5, 12, and 19, 2014

Prospective hunters must have a Maryland hunting license, Patuxent Research Refuge hunting permit, and a hunter safety card to be eligible. Hunters with disabilities are required to provide written verification of disability at the time of entry into the lottery - Patuxent Research Refuge Disability Certification Form. Additionally, all selected hunters must pattern their weapon prior to the hunt. Hunters are encouraged to attend a NWTF clinic prior to the day of the hunt. Hunters may contact the refuge to pre-arrange the assistance of NWTF volunteers to call in turkeys.
