Patuxent Research Refuge's tram is an all electric vehicle designed to carry up to 40 passengers around a 2 mile unimproved route. The vehicle was assembled by Specialty Vehicle Manufacturing Corporation, and donated to the Refuge in October 1994 by Electricore and the Department of Defense. The tram provides public interpreted tours around a scenic route near the National Wildlife Visitor Center from mid-March through mid-November, with up to five 35 minute tours per day. The tram is operated by the Friends of Patuxent Wildlife Research Center,
a non-profit cooperating association, established to support the programs
of Patuxent Wildlife Research Center and Refuge. Questions on the tram should be directed to NellBaldacchino 301/497-5766 or email: nell_baldacchino@fws.gov |
