Scout Workshops 2013

Girl Scouts

The following workshops for Girl Scouts are being offered this year. We are still in the process of evaluating the changes made to Girl Scouting and are gradually adding new workshops to meet the updated requirements. These workshops are free; however, donations are greatly appreciated and can be donated through the Friends of Patuxent. Space is limited, and registration is required by calling 301-497-5887 Registration will not be accepted until 9:15 am one month prior to the date of the workshop (i.e., if the workshop is on October 1st, then registration will not be accepted until 9:15 am on September 1st).  A maximum of ten, (10), scouts will be accepted from each troop.  Participants must stay for the entire workshop.  Please note that all workshops are subject to change or cancellation dependent upon availability of staff and/or low registration numbers.  Other programs may be available; call and ask to speak to our Scout Coordinator.

Bugs Workshop

Scouts will complete all requirements for Legacy: Naturalist Bugs. This workshop will be held at the National Wildlife Visitor Center. Long pants and water bottles are advised as part of the program will be outside.

Cadet Scouts:

Night Hike
Would you like to prepare your scouts for what they may hear on an overnight campout in the woods? After receiving many calls from Cadet leaders wanting to schedule night hikes, we added these to our program offerings. Scouts will be introduced to common sounds of the night, learn about their origins and what they mean. We will cover birds, mammals, amphibians, and insects. Come to North Tract for an opportunity to learn about this active nighttime community. What is actually heard will depend upon the season. (Night hikes are offered on Sunday evenings to accommodate the leader’s schedule and to avoid hunting.)
Sunday, April 14th 5:45 pm– 7:45 pm
Sunday, September 22st 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Sunday, October 20st 5:45 pm – 7:45 pm
