Purpose: These volunteers enhance a visitor’s experience and
knowledge through assistance with educational activities and programs.
Duties: Enhance visitors learning experience through assistance
with educational activities and programs. EE Assistant Volunteers
will provide assistance to classes, teachers, and youth group leaders
in the use of the Center. Also, will assist educators in outdoor EE
activities, and assist in planning and providing additional programs
for educators and the general public. Also, some EE activities may
be scheduled at local schools.
Location of Assignment: NWVC building and grounds, and local
schools.
Qualifications: Experience in EE is a plus, but opportunities
for learning new activities and concepts are available. An interest
in EE and in public speaking is required.
Minimum Age Requirement: 16.
Training Provided/Required: Refuge Orientation (6
hours), Customer Service on-the-job training (8 hours), Project Wild
Workshop (6 hours), Basic Ecological Concepts Training (6 hours),
and Interpretive Techniques Training (6 hours).
Time Commitment: Assistance with at least 4 teacher training
workshops per year, and work throughout the year on educational materials
development and special educational programs.
Related Issues: Volunteers working with children on the Refuge
may go through a background check prior to any volunteer assignment.
Incidents of lyme disease have occurred as a result of working in
the field. Volunteers should be aware of the risk and measures to
take to avoid tick bites.
