Purpose: These volunteers enhance a visitor’s experience and
knowledge through assistance with educational activities and programs.
Duties: Conduct or assist in conducting children’s educational
programs at schools or at the Refuge.
Location of Assignment: Environmental Education Assistants
may teach classes in designated field sites, in the North Tract Environmental
Education Classroom, or at local schools.
Qualifications: Must have a desire to work with children.
Must have valid driver’s license.
Minimum Age Requirement: 16.
Training Provided/Required: Refuge Orientation (6
hours), Customer Service on-the-job training (8 hours), Project Wild
Workshop (8 hours), Basic Ecological Concepts Training (6 hours),
Interpretive Techniques Training (6 hours).
Time Commitment: Must assist with at least one program per
month (approx 3 hrs).
Related Issues: Volunteers working with children on the Refuge
may go through a background check prior to any volunteer assignment.
Incidents of lyme disease have occurred as a result of working in
the field. Volunteers should be aware of the risk and measures to
take to avoid tick bites.
