Environmental quality can impact the health and survival of fish and wildlife, as well as make these natural resources unfit for human consumption.

The New York Field Office’s environmental quality program responds to the threats that contaminants pose to fish and wildlife. We conduct studies across New York State to determine whether contaminants, such as heavy metals or polychlorinated biphenyls, are affecting fish and wildlife. Our biologists also respond to oil and chemical spills, evaluate the effects of pesticides and other chemicals on endangered species, and work with our National Wildlife Refuges to help them in land acquisition and chemical disposal.
