Dave Bryson: Senior Fish & Wildlife Biologist

Years of Service 1990-2005

Dave Bryson, Senior Fish & Wildlife Biologist at the New York Field Office, unexpectedly passed away on November 11, 2005. Dave was only 44 years old but accomplished much in such a short life. He was a wonderful family man and leaves his wife Lisa, and two children, Jake and Amy. Dave was always involved in activities with his children. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and always delighted in telling stories of fishing and hunting with his children. He raised Chesapeake Bay retrievers and we here in the office were often treated to visits by the newest pup he was training for the field. Dave was also very involved with supporting Lisa's passion for raising and training horses and the children's riding competitions. Our hearts go out to his family.

Dave was also part of our family at the New York Field Office and a proud member of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. We will miss him dearly. Dave came to our office in 1990 from FERC to work on the relicensing of hydro projects in New York. Since that time he has become one of the foremost experts in the Service in the hydro arena and was called upon numerous times to be an instructor for the hydropower course at NCTC. Always ready for a new challenge he was becoming our expert on the up and coming tidal power technology.

Dave was passionate about resource conservation. As many of you can relate to, he was a biologist with that fire in his belly for the resource. As anyone who has sat across the negotiation table from him would tell you, his passion for the resource and command of the issues made him a formidable person to negotiate with. Dave was also a leader and not long ago he went through the Region's leadership training program and received great recognition. Dave's leadership was also evident in the local Fisheries Society Chapter in which he was a chapter officer several times.

A member of our family is gone but he left us enriched with many warm memories. He left a legacy of protecting the resource we can all be proud of.
