Nomans Land Island

Nomans Land Island National Wildlife Refuge is a 640 acre island off the coast of Martha's Vineyard in Massachusetts. Portions of the island have been managed by the Service since 1970, when the island was owned by the U.S. Navy. The Navy transferred ownership of the island to the Service in 1997. This island is closed to the public.

Virtual Tour

We have developed a virtual tour that provides the public with the opportunity to “visit” the refuge by viewing short video segments. The tour provides information about the island, its history, habitat, and management. It can be found here.

“This is an exciting opportunity for us to use new technologies to give the public a chance to experience the National Wildlife Refuge System any time of the year from any location, “ said Elizabeth Herland, manager of Nomans Land Island NWR. “People will be able to see and learn about an area that is inaccessible because of safety and wildlife concerns.”
