Down East Spring Birding Festival

The Annual Down East Spring Birding Festival provides a unique experience in "the real Maine" where birders can get out on their own and observe a great variety of birds in diverse natural environments. The festival offers birders various self-guided explorations as well as guided hikes, boat tours, and presentations led by area experts.  Maps and information will be provided for a fulfilling birding experience. Summer Programs

The refuge offers many educational programs throughout the summer.  Summer programming varies from year to year.  Past years' programs have included guided refuge tours, nature walks, meeting Bart, Moosehorn's captive, flightless bald eagle. 

Children's Fishing Derby

June - The fishing derby introduces children ages 16 and under to fishing as a fun way to enjoy the outdoors.  The year 2000 brought the largest group yet.  77 kids came and most caught 4 or 5 brook trout each.  Experience is not necessary, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service staff are available to help beginners.

National Wildlife Refuge Week ProgramSecond week in October - Come learn how important our National Wildlife Refuges are to wildlife.  Exciting events for all ages.  Meet Bart, the refuges captive, flightless bald eagle, learn about habitat management, or play wildlife-oriented games.
