All refuge programs are free of charge.Down East Spring Birding FestivalThe Annual Down East Spring Birding Festival provides a unique experience in "the real Maine" where birders can get out on their own and observe a great variety of birds in diverse natural environments. The festival offers birders various self-guided explorations as well as guided hikes, boat tours, and presentations led by area experts. Summer ProgramsThe refuge offers many educational programs throughout the summer. Summer programming varies from year to year. Past years' programs have included guided refuge tours, nature walks, meeting Bart, Moosehorn's captive, flightless bald eagle. Children's Fishing DerbyJune - The fishing derby introduces children ages 16 and under to fishing as a fun way to enjoy the outdoors. The year 2000 brought the largest group yet. 77 kids came and most caught 4 or 5 brook trout each. Experience is not necessary, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service staff are available to help beginners.
