Management

The refuge objectives are to provide feeding, resting, and nesting habitat for waterfowl, shorebirds, osprey and a variety of migratory songbirds and to provide upland habitat for migratory birds, white-tailed deer, red fox and small mammals. Each partner regulates public use activities on their lands.

In the last two years, the refuge began implementing its Wildlland Urban Interface (WUI) program. The refuge utilizes prescribed fire as a means to ecologically manage the land. Please read the WUI Plan (pdf - 7.34MB) to learn more.
