ANS Coordination
in the Northeast Region

The LGLFRO leads initiatives to meet regional coordination and technical assistance responsibilities relative to ANS issues in the Service’s Northeast region. With assistance and guidance from Fisheries program staff in the regional office in Hadley, MA, the ANS program coordinator (LGLFRO staff) participates in meetings such as those of the Northeast ANS Panel , Great Lakes Panel on ANS, and the ANS Task Force. Outreach and education initiatives led by the LGLFRO, help advance ANS awareness and prevention. The program coordinator serves as the Service’s regional liaison for state/interstate ANS management plans, review of plan reports, and review of implementation tables. The LGLFRO addresses emerging issues as they arise within the region. The Service’s ANS program is supervised by the Branch of Invasive Species in Washington, D.C. The regional coordinator works with ANS coordinators in the other Service regions to address ANS issues of national significance and fulfill responsibilities set forth in the National Invasive Species Act (1996) and Executive Order 13112 (pdf-65KB) .
