Youth Fishing Contest Saturday, June 5, 2010
Connecting People with Nature Flying birds, police dogs, live primates, fishing and lots of fun, educational activities are just a few of the amazing attractions for families at the Lower Great Lakes Fish & Wildlife Conservation Office 8th Fish and Wildlife Festival in Niagara Falls, NY. Working in partnership with the Friends of the Western New York Great Lakes and the City of Niagara Falls, the event will celebrate National Fishing and Boating Week. In conjunction with the wildlife festival, the Niagara River Anglers Association will sponsor a youth fishing contest. Many other local partners will join together to make this event a memorable one. Many of the interactive displays encourage both children and adults to learn about conservation and the environment. Families can learn about some important conservation messages, such as the dangers of pollution and littering, and the value of being good conservation and land stewards. Children can participate in a scavenger hunt sponsored by the Friends of the WNY Great Lakes. After visiting displays and earning enough beads to build a bracelet to wear as a reminder of their day at the park and their role as a conservationist, every child will be given the opportunity to “fish” for a prize. No child will walk away empty-handed.
