Amagansett National Wildlife Refuge
This 36-acre Refuge preserves a unique double dune system—a habitat type that has been lost on much of Long Island due to development. Amagansett’s coastal location makes it a prime stopover for migrating raptors, shorebirds and songbirds, and the Refuge supports several rare orchids. Management focuses on monitoring beach-nesting bird success and non-native species control.
The Refuge is adjacent to Atlantic Ave., off Rte. 27 in Amagansett. Enjoy a walk on the beach to watch, study, and photograph wildlife, or fish from the shore. Watch for migrating birds from April-May and September-October! |
