Deer Hunting at Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge

 

The deadline for accepting the 2009-2010 deer hunting applications for Wertheim National Wildlife Refuge has passed. All letters notifying applicants whether or not their application was selected in the lottery will be mailed. If you have any questions, please contact the refuge at 631-286-0485.

 

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q - I was picked to hunt through the lottery but won't be able to attend. Can I give my spot to a friend or relative?

A - No, hunting permits are not transferable. Please notify the refuge as soon as possible if you won't be able to attend.

Q - A friend and I applied for the hunt under a 2-person hunt party application but my friend won't be able to attend. Can I bring someone else?

A - No, substitutions cannot be made.

Q - Do you have a standby lottery?

A - No.

Q - Do I have to hunt all two or three days of the hunt I was selected for?

A - No but we encourage you to.

Q - Can I leave my tree stand up overnight?

A - Yes, you may leave your tree stand up at your own risk throughout your two or three day hunt period.

Q - I wasn't picked to hunt through the lottery. Will I get my application fee back?

A - No, the application fee is non-refundable.

Q - What happens if I apply for the same hunt twice?

A - Your second application will get thrown out. If your second application is a 2-person hunt party application, your name will be removed from the application and the other hunter will get treated as an individual applicant.
