About Us
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Southern District Office of Law Enforcement is located in Richmond, Va. and encompasses the states of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia. With a total population of 15.5 million people, a land area of 75,460 square miles, and water covering 6,507 square miles, the responsibilities of this office are wide and varied. The Southern District is comprised of a Resident Agent in Charge (RAC), Deputy RAC, Special Agents, Wildlife Inspectors, support staff and pilot and aircraft. Agents and Inspectors in the Southern District work closely with their State and Federal counterparts on all violations under the jurisdiction of the Office of Law Enforcement. Wildlife Inspectors are assigned to the Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall (BWI) Airport and Dulles International Airport. They inspect commercial and personal wildlife shipments at these ports of entry.
