Winter Carnivore Survey

This survey is designed to give the Refuge baseline information on carnivore species on the Refuge. Camera stations are set up with bait, including beaver lure, catnip, carrion and a visual attractant like a pie plate or feather. When an animal comes to investigate the bait a motion detector triggers the camera to take a picture. Snow tracking may also be done along possible wildlife corridors and trails.
