Visitor Information

Directions:
Lake Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge is located in the Great North Woods of New England in northern New Hampshire and Maine.  The Refuge is approximately 30 miles north of Berlin, New Hampshire and approximately 40 miles south of the U.S. and Canada border.

The Refuge Headquarters are located on NH Route 16, 5.5 miles north of Errol, NH.  Refuge Headquarters visiting hours are  Mon. - Fri.,  8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Photo of people kayakingAccess to the refuge: Because the majority of the refuge includes lands surrounding Lake Umbagog and the Magalloway River, the best access to the refuge is by boat.  Boats allow you to explore the  marshes and waterways of the refuge. map
