Hunting, Fishing and Trapping

Hunting

Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge is open to hunting during most New York State hunting seasons in accordance with New York State laws and refuge specific regulations.

Refuge permits are required for all hunting on the refuge.

Printed regulations are available from staff at the visitor contact station, in boxes located in the parking lot of the visitor contact station, or by clicking the links below:

Reserved Waterfowl Hunt Days

Young Waterfowlers Program and Youth Waterfowl Hunt pdf (238 KB) (revised 2009)

Waterfowl Lottery Application Form This form is used to enter the reserved hunt days lottery and to pre-register for the Young Waterfowler's Program. When you click on this link you will be leaving the refuge website.

  • To enter the reserved hunt days lottery, complete items 1, 2, and 3. In Item 4 list the two dates in order of preference. Sign at Item 7. For junior hunters, parent/guardian must also sign on the line provided.
  • To pre-register for the Young Waterfowler's Program/Youth Hunt, complete Items 1,2 3, and 6A. In Item 6, select Youth Hunt from the drop down menu (or write in). Sign at Item 7. Parent/guardian must also sign on the line provided.
  • Mail or hand carry to the refuge office at: Iroquois NWR, 1101 Casey Road, Basom, NY 14013.

Waterfowl ID Class We host one Waterfowl ID Class, generally in August.

Deer

Beginning with the 2009-2010 season the refuge will be instituting an annual refuge brochure/permit for deer. When signed and dated on the front the brochure becomes a permit which is valid for the duration of the hunt seasons (archery, muzzleloader and regular).

Harvest reports are optional, yet the information in valuable and we would appreciate the reports. Only one report needs to be sent in per the season.

Note that these are generic forms which are used by refuges across the US. Some information may not be pertinent to our area.

Obtain hunt reports from the refuge office in person, by mail or by clicking on the link below.

Instructions:
These are fillable pdf files. Either type in the information and print the completed form or print the blank form and then complete it.

Complete the information on the top part of the report. Leave "Time" and "Number in Party" blank.

Write the number of deer, sex and size that you harvested for the season. Leave all other options blank.

Mail or hand-carry the report to the refuge office, 1101 Casey Road, Basom, NY 14013
