Refuge grounds are open all year from sunrise to sunset, free of charge. The Refuge Headquarters at 241 Pleasant Plains Road is open from 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., Monday through Friday. On weekends in spring and fall, the Wildlife Observation Center is staffed by volunteers.

In spring and fall, the Helen C. Fenske Visitor Center and Friends of Great Swamp NWR Nature Shop (32 Pleasant Plains Road) is open Thursdays and Fridays, 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.; and Saturdays and Sundays, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. The North Gate along Pleasant Plains Road is open during these hours to facilitate travel between the Visitor Center and other refuge facilities. Please call ahead for information.

NOTE: The refuge and Visitor Center will be closed to the public during the refuge's annual deer hunt, Nov. 4-7, and will re-open Sunday Nov. 8.

The Visitor Center will be closed on Thanksgiving (Nov. 26) and closed Dec. 24-31.
