2009 Deer Hunt

Hunt dates October 1, 2, 3, 9,10,16,17 -break- November 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21

• There will be no scheduled rain make-up days.
• Scouting day, September 26 for permit holders.
• Hunt entrances will be Jericho Lane, Railroad Ditch, and Corapeake Ditch only.
• All harvested deers must be checked at the refuge hunt check station.
• DMAP tags: You will be able to get your first DMAP tag from the refuge headquarters by bringing a copy of your hunt license by during business hours. Additional tags will be available from the hunt check station on hunt days.
• Special notice: On November 20 and 21, the refuge Black Bear Hunt will be held in designated portions of the refuge (see 2009 Black Bear Hunt map). These areas are also open to deer hunting.

*Application period: To hunt the full season, permit applications and $15.00 fee must be received between August 1 and close of business on September 15, 2009.

To hunt the late season only (November 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, 21), permit applications and $15.00 fee must be received by close of business on October 15, 2009.

To apply: Send a card or letter stating your legal name, address, and phone number and a $15.00 hunt fee made payable to:U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Mail to Great Dismal Swamp NWR , ATTN: Deer Hunt, 3100 Desert Road, Suffolk, VA 23434. A drop box will be available at the refuge headquarters during business hours.
