Youth Works!: From College to “Dream Job”
Amanda Bessler has her “dream job”. She has always loved the outdoors, wildlife and the environment. When she graduated from college, Bessler was hired as a temporary biotech at Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge in Virginia. Once she experienced her first summer working in the field, Bessler knew that working as a wildlife biologist was the perfect career for her. Now a permanent employee at the Chesapeake Marshlands National Wildlife Refuge Complex, Amanda says of her job, “I feel no other job would offer me as much, as I can constantly grow and continue my education. I am physically challenged by field work, and mentally challenged with the constant opportunity to learn about natural resources and how we manage them. This is my dream career, as I am in a position to make a difference for natural resources and for our earth.”
