National Fish Hatcheries Reeling from Hurricane Irene

National fish hatcheries in Vermont, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania and Virginia sustained damage during the weather events surrounding Hurricane Irene. Initial reports from the Northeast Fishery Center (Penn.) and stations at Dwight D. Eisenhower (Vt.), White River (Vt.), North Attleboro (Mass.) and Harrison Lake (Va.) hatcheries indicate a variety of storm-related issues including loss of power and domestic water supply, significant flooding, moderate to severe damage to roads and culverts, downed trees and power lines. Some of the properties have not been reached to fully assess damages.
