Join us on June 27, 2009 from 10 am-4 pm for the Third Annual Guys Mills Heritage Fest. A number of exhibits and activities will be offered around town and at Erie National Wildlife Refuge all of which are free and open to the public.
At Erie National Wildlife Refuge
As part of the Fest, the 50th anniversary of Erie National Wildlife Refuge will be commemorated with cake and giveaways as part of a year-long celebration. The Friends of Erie National Wildlife Refuge will sponsor several special activities around the Refuge to give visitors an opportunity to learn more about the mission of the Refuge and the public opportunities which exist there. Scheduled activities planned include:
Bird walk (10:30 am)
Forest exploration walks (11 am & 2 pm)
Bald eagle presentations (11:30 am & 1:30 pm)
Bat presentations (12 pm & 3 pm)
Stream ecology mini field trips (12:30 pm &2:30 pm),
On-going activities include: live birds, nature photography and art display, wildlife wood carver, interactive educational activities and nature crafts. Also, meet T.R. Bear.
Also enter the prize drawing by visiting the various stations in town and on the refuge.
Here’s what to look for around town.
At the Randolph Volunteer Fire Department there will be a smoke house, and refreshments. Also, Smokey Bear will pay a visit.
The United Evangelical Free Church will host a children’s carnival, antique car cruise-in, a puppet show and refreshments. Entertainment includes “Shades of Time” (10 am – 12 pm) and Scott Lesher on guitar (1 pm – 4 pm).
Faith Builders Educational Programs will have an historical display of Guys Mills and author Cheryl Seber Weiderspahn will be signing her book “Around Randolph Township and Guys Mills”. Books will be available for purchase. Also there will be tours of the former schools building (10 am – 3 pm), a country style auction (10 am – 2 pm) and refreshments.
At the Township Building where there will be a display of road work equipment.
You can also build and fly a kite (10 am – 3 pm) and learn about family safety from Sheriff Nick Hoke (12 pm – 2 pm
