Current Activities 2012 - 2013
Maine – updated NWI data for Moosehorn and Sunhaze National Wildlife Refuges (NWRs).
New Hampshire – updated NWI data for Great Bay and Pondicherry NWRs; updating and expanding NWI data for coastal NH.
Connecticut – completed statewide update of NWI funded by Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection and prepared reports on wetland status, recent trends, statewide landscape-level wetland functional assessment, and an inventory of potential wetland restoration; completed report on eelgrass status in eastern Long Island Sound.
Massachusetts – completed preliminary updated of NWI for the state with MADEP data as foundation and are expanding the inventory for landscape-level functional analysis; state report should be available in early 2014.
Rhode Island – completed a rapid update (major changes only) and enhancement of NWI data, produced preliminary statewide landscape-level functional assessment, and report on wetland status and functions is nearly complete, will be available in early 2014.
New York –updated NWI data along the eastern end of Lake Ontario (NWI should post data in 2014); nearly completed an inventory of unmapped areas of the Lake Ontario watershed along with updates in selected areas – part of a multi-year effort to improve wetland data (funded by EPA through the Great Lakes wetlands restoration initiative), data should be posted by NWI in 2014, reports planned for late 2014.
New Jersey –creation of NWI+ database for state still in progress, will then use data to generate a statewide landscape-level wetland functional assessment, and publish report on the state's wetlands by Fall of 2014; updated NWI data for Forsythe, Supwana Meadows, and Cape May NWRs.
Delaware – no work since completing updated statewide inventory.
Maryland – updating and enhancing NWI data for much of Maryland's coastal zone includes landscape-level functional assessment and inventory of potential wetland restoration sites; completed analysis of wetland trends in selected areas – report planned for 2014, additional areas planned for 2014 (EPA funded); updated NWI data for the Blackwater and Eastern Neck NWRs.
Pennsylvania – updated NWI data for Erie/French Creek NWRs; updating and enhancing NWI data for the Lake Erie watershed of Pennsylvania and Delaware River Estuary (funded by Pennsylvania Coastal Resources Management Program), including landscape-level functional assessment and inventory of potential wetland restoration sites – expected completion of geospatial data and reports in early 2014 for Erie and late 2014 for Delaware.
Virginia – updating and enhancing NWI data along the mainstem of the James River (includes landscape-level functional assessment and inventory of potential wetland restoration sites); completed recent trends analysis of selected areas and report planned for early 2014, additional areas planned for 2014 (EPA funded project); updated NWI data for the following NWRs: Back Bay, Chincoteague, James River, Presquille, Wallops Island, Great Dismal Swamp, and Fishermans Island (data posted or planned for posting by NWI in 2014).
West Virginia – updated NWI data for Canaan Valley NWR.
