Visitor Center displays

Visit the past.  Zoom in on waterfowl, waders and shorebirds at the wildlife viewing area.  Discover treasures of the ocean and land at the Please Touch table.  Explore the critical habitats protected by the refuge.  Enhance your experience with a wildlife video in our state-of-the-art auditorium.  Whatever your interest, the Visitor Center is a great place to begin an exploration of the Eastern Shore of Virginia National Wildlife Refuge.

Observation window

An observation window overlooks a freshwater pond where waterfowl, wading birds, and shorebirds may be seen through binoculars and spotting scopes. 

Habitat exhibits

Three-dimensional displays depict the four critical habitats the refuge was established to protect -  Chesapeake Bay, Barrier Islands, Salt Marshes, and Upland Forests. 

Visitor center hours:

January - February     Friday - Sunday     10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
April - November               daily                   9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
December and March       daily                 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day

 

A gift shop operated by the Chincoteague Natural History Association offers a variety of books, clothing, stickers, patches, and other items for the nature lover.
