Positions Available Spring, Summer and Fall!

Looking for a way to gain valuable work experience while still in college?  Don't know what you want to do with your career, but need experience to find out?  Do you enjoy working with people and wildlife in a variety of settings? An internship with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at a National Wildlife Refuge may be for you.

Internships provide valuable hands-on experience in the many activities of a Refuge, such as public use services, environmental education, and biology.  Duties and approximate time allocations include:
  • 50% Staffing the Visitor Center
  • 30% Developing and conducting environmental education programs
  • 10% Assisting with wildlife surveys, recording biological data, and habitat management programs
  • 10% Developing exhibits, brochures, and other various activities
  •  
Program Logistics
Length: 12 weeks
Salary: $1200 stipend, plus housing
Transportation: A personal vehicle is required as the refuge is in a rural area.  The nearest town, Cape Charles, is 13 miles north of the refuge.

Qualifications
A background in outdoor recreation, visitor services or environmental education and experience working with the public.
