Local Nature Photographer Exhibits Photos of Massachusetts' Shore Birds

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is hosting an exhibit by nature and wildlife photographer John Van de Graaff. The photographs feature coastal birds of Massachusetts, including the piping plover.

The exhibit runs from July 1 through August 25, 2009. An opening reception is scheduled for Thursday July 9 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. The gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday except federal holidays. There is no charge for admission. Adults will be asked to show a photo I.D. to enter the building.

The art gallery is located at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, 300 Westgate Center Drive, Hadley, Mass. The building is located south of the intersection of Route 9 and Route 116 North.

A self taught photographer, John particularly enjoys photographing birds. He enjoys the challenge of capturing birds’ incredible beauty and diversity, as well as their unique and individual behaviors.  John’s images are frequently used by Mass Audubon, and one image of a painted bunting appeared on the cover of Birder’s World magazine.  He has given frequent presentations to birding and photography groups and has exhibited his work at the Burnett Gallery in Amherst, MA.  To learn more about John and his photography visit www.birdsbyjohn.com.
