The primary term of service will be from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Typical duties include the following: staffing the refuge entrance fee collection booth; greeting visitors and providing refuge information; collecting entrance fees and checking passes; completing daily financial reports; and staffing off road vehicle control booth. Law Enforcement Refuge Law Enforcement Officers provide resource and visitor protection within the National Wildlife Refuge System throughout the United States. The law enforcement division at Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge is staffed by two, full-time refuge law enforcement officers year-round, and three seasonal refuge law enforcement officers from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The majority of violations encountered by seasonal refuge law enforcement officers are traffic violations (exceeding the speed limit, careless operation, driving under the influence of alcohol, etc.) and violations dealing with public conduct (trespass, possession of controlled substance, nudity, etc.). In addition, refuge law enforcement officers provide emergency medical services and coordinate search and rescue efforts within the refuge.
