27 6:00 am - Pony Penning festivities begin. The Saltwater Cowboys move the northern herd of ponies down the beach to the pony corral along Beach Road.
27 6:00 am - 2 pm - Volpe Center staff will be on hand, at the pony corral along Beach Road, to provide an opportunity for visitors to learn about transportation issues and solutions for the refuge, seashore, Town of Chincoteague and Accomack County.
27 - 28 Ponies in corral along Beach Road for public viewing.
29 Annual Pony Swim (time to be announced)

3 - 7 Children in the Woods Day Camp
7 7:00 pm - *First Friday Talk at the Visitor Center, featuring Park Ranger Chris Seymour, Assateague Island National Seashore, will speak on Life Saving Stations on Assateague Island.
* Entrance fees waived if attending program only.
10 - 14 Children in the Woods Day Camp
11 Perseid Meteor Shower - Refuge hours extended to permit overnight viewing. Anyone wishing to see the meteor shower must enter the refuge before 10 p.m.

4 7:00 pm - *First Friday Talk at the Visitor Center, featuring John Amrhein, author of The Hidden Galleon, will relate the story of The Spanish Ship, La Galga, that was shipwrecked on the shore of Assateague Island on September 5, 1750.

27 4:00 pm - *Special Presentation at the Visitor Center, featuring Reese Lukei, of the Center for Conservation Biology at William and Mary, is bringing a special presentation entitled, Snow Geese and Other Large Birds on the Eastern Shore.
