Delaware River/Delmarva Coastal Area Ecosystem

Supawna Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is located along the lower Delaware River in New Jersey. Brackish tidal marshes make up nearly 80 percent of the refuge, providing feeding and resting areas for waterfowl during their migrations. The refuge also provides feeding habitat for nearby Pea Patch Island, which hosts over 6,000 pairs of herons and egrets -- the largest colonial wading bird rookery north of Florida on the East Coast.
