Keith Hastie, Energy Coordinator

Regional Conservation Planning and Assistance Program

Keith Hastie coordinates the Northeast Region Energy Program. Since 2008, he has worked with scientists and managers in the Service, other agencies, industry and various groups to understand and address the effects of energy development to fish and wildlife resources.

Prior to joining the Service in 1998, Hastie served for nine years in the U.S. Navy before deciding to change careers and further his formal education. His lifelong interest in, and respect for, the natural environment led him to earn a bachelor of science in natural resource management from the University of West Florida in Pensacola and a master's degree in environmental science from the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at Indiana University, Bloomington. He then worked in the private sector conducting CERCLA and RCRA site investigations, primarily at Department of Defense facilities. Hastie began his career with the Service as a contaminants biologist in the Brunswick, and later the Athens, Georgia field offices, assessing the environmental effects of chemical releases and oil spills on coastal ecosystems.

Off duty, Hastie enjoys spending time with his family, simply messing about in his sailboat, and pursuing any number of other hobbies that catch his interest.
