Daniel Murphy, Chief, Division of Habitat Conservation

Daniel Murphy has spent 27 years in the field of conservation and 19 of those with the Service in land protection and exotic invasive mammal (nutria) control.

Since 2005, under Murphy's leadership, the Division of Habitat Conservation has acquired $10,000,000 in federal funding, matched with $30,000,000 in partner Wfunds to protect almost 10,000 acres of fish and wildlife habitat in the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

He received an Associate's degree in Ecology and Environmental Technology from Paul Smiths College, New York, a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science from Rutgers University, New Jersey, and a Master's degree in Environmental from. Johns Hopkins University, Maryland.

Feeling a need to do prevent the destruction of wildlife and natural areas, Murphy describes his decision to enter into this work as a calling. This extends into his personal life where he spends time with his family hiking, canoeing, and camping.
