Examples of GIS applications

Piping Plover Critical Habitat

Endangered and Threatened Species & Species of Concern

Missouri River - Garrison Reach Corridor Planning

The use of GIS in the natural resource field has become increasingly important.  The ability to view resources on a landscape level greatly improves the management of those resources.  We as managers can visually see the interaction of resources with human impacts and natural phenomenon.  A GIS also allows use to model various aspects of natural resources' biological functions.  These models can help avoid the degradation of resources along with providing sound alternatives to human/natural resource conflicts.  A good example of this is the North Dakota Endangered Species/Pesticide Management Program.
