Flowering/Fruiting Dates: April-June/August
Habitat: Bogs and streamsides on granite rockfaces along the Blue Ridge Divide.
Distinguishing Characteristics: Hollow, tubular leaves with heart-shaped hoods; erect flower stalks hear one (usually) maroon flower each; 8-28 inches tall; flowers are fragrant.
Threats: Wetland destruction, collection.
