Environmental Education Workshops

Environmental workshops will be sponsored by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and partnering agencies and organizations at some future time. Times and locations will be announced here when available.


July 1

Cost: Free

This workshop answers every question you ever had about bats. Learn about the habitat and habits of bats; learn about rare bats and; collect live specimens during a nighttime bat safari at the Cradle of Forestry in America. Sponsored by the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and USDA Forest Service. This course, held at the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education, and qualifies for the state's environmental education criteria II or III credits and one continuing education unit.

The Western North Carolina Conservation Education Consortium is sponsoring a one-day conservation education fair and workshops for public, private and home school educators; environmental educators; scout leaders; and the general public. This free event is to be held at the North Carolina Arboretum in Asheville. Throughout the day there will be hands-on activities and demonstrations, teaching workshops, and exhibits.

Get outdoors and learn about migratory birds of the Southeast and how to recognize common birds of North Carolina forests. Perform bird surveys with a wildlife biologist. Join in on a raptor watch field trip. Topics include birding skills, migratory bird issues, successional habitats, and ways to make these topics relevant to students in middle and high school grades. Partners are the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission and USDA Forest Service and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The workshop qualifies for state environmental education criteria III credit and one continuing education unit.
