Conserving this Nation’s fish and other aquatic resources cannot be successful without the partnership of Tribes; they manage or influence some of the most important aquatic habitats both on and off reservations. In addition, the Federal government and the Service have distinct and unique obligations toward Tribes based on trust responsibility, treaty provisions, and statutory mandates.


Why Pacific Lamprey Matter to Columbia Basin Tribes

LampreyPacific lamprey have been on earth for around 450 million years but in the past 50 years, they've been pushed to near extinction in the Columbia River Basin.

Lamprey have been a part of the cultures of the tribes in the Pacific Northwest since time immemorial and in this video they share their feelings on this amazing creature as well as what they are doing to help keep them from going extinct.
