In addition, the Federal government and the Service have distinct and unique obligations toward Tribes based on trust responsibility, treaty provisions, and statutory mandates.


A National Tribal Natural Resources Strategy

Butch Blazer is currently the President of the Native American Fish and Wildlife Society, former director of Forestry for the State of New Mexico, and former councilman of the Mescalero Apache Tribe. Butch is traveling the country to build alliances and garner interest in this national Tribal Natural Resources strategy. On June 28, 2011, Butch Blazer, President, Native American Fish and Wildlife Society, visited the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Mountain-Prairie Region to discuss Our Natural Resources (ONR, pronounced honor), an alliance of Native organizations that are developing a national Tribal Natural Resources Strategy. He presented this introductory powerpoint and then engaged in discussion with us about the strategy.
